Flat Lay Self Portrait

  • In the photo, you can see a red scarf or a "Hijab" which symbolizes that I am a Muslim girl. My cultural clothes like the dresses that I wear to school represent where my family is from so my clothes reflects my identity.
  • There is a school bag that is decorated with pink flowers in the photo and it represents how I cherish the thought of going to school and getting my education.
  • Flowers because I love growing them and they have their own designated color that makes them unique from others. I mostly like purple flowers because purple is my favorite color.
  • I have this teapot that was molded and painted by my cousin but in general, it can show how I like to  cook and bake different kinds of foods. Also, the teapot can emphasize how I like to drink tea later in the day because it's a perfect time to sit down with my parents and spend time with them.
  • I love to write a lot like any quotes or experiences that fascinate me the most so I tend to write those interesting ideas down in my sparkly, unicorn notebook/diary.
  • I love to sew and knit so I still have my favorite quilt that I made the first time when I was 10 or 11 years old on my bed.

About the Artist

I am a Senior at Brockton High school. I love to sew and knit so I still have my favorite quilt that I made the first time when I was 10 or 11 years old. I like to grow flowers because when they're blossomed, they have their own designated color that makes them unique. I love to cook different types of food like Indian cuisine or Italian food. I love my family the most because they encourage me to continue my education and they are the ones who are always supporting me. I enjoy making albums of my family photos because it represents the love that I have for them so I really can't imagine living in a world without them. I have three, older sisters and four, older brothers. One of my brothers is actually my twin. Getting an education is considered an essential key in my family, especially for girls because there aren't many girls in my family who had the chance to go to school, but I'm the second girl in my family to continue my education through high school and hopefully, college. I prefer to drink tea or "chai" instead of coffee. In my culture, it's common to have a set time for tea later in the day so my parents and I get together and we have time to chat, which is satisfying and fun. I love helping people a lot so I'm a peer tutor for Spanish, Math, and Science.
